‘This land development does not adhere to conditions set by laws’

Wonderfontein land development in Metsimaholo does not adhere to conditions set by National Departments and Municipal by-laws

DA Councillors Jacques Barnard and Frans van der Merwe of the Metsimaholo Local Municipality writes:
The Democratic Alliance in Metsimaholo is very concerned about the underground infrastructure that is being installed on the Wonderfontein Land Development by the Free State Provincial Department of Human Settlements. The DA has reported the matter to the Provincial Legislature as well as the National Council of Provinces.

The Development is not adhering to conditions as set by the Department of Water Affairs, the Department of Economic Development, Small Business, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA), the Department of Police, Roads and Transport, the Metsimaholo Local Municipality and Rand Water.
Some of the breaches of conditions include not upgrading the existing Leeuwspruit pump station, serious issues and shortcomings regarding the capacity of the existing infrastructure to handle sewer and wastewater effluent from any new developments and the previous designs for the area must be revised to ensure that enough store capacity is available for this new development even during power failings/cuts by Eskom. A full report of all breaches by Departments is available from Councillor Jacques Barnard.

The backward manner in which this development is taking place is a disaster. If the current trajectory continues, the opportunity to inspire the community and investors to invest in Sasolburg, to engage in building attractive and decent housing, will be lost.
The DA will continue to apply pressure and will submit questions through the relevant provincial and national departments to ensure transparency to the communities we serve.
