Letter: Starting from scratch after fire

Brigette and Michaela lost everything in a fire that destroyed their flat. They send a letter to Vaalweekblad about the fire and their urgent need for textbooks.

VANDERBIJLPARK – We are grateful for the incredible support and kindness we’ve received after the fire that destroyed our home and the place where we ran our tutoring and homeschooling business.

Your generous donations of clothing and support in recovering our car keys have been invaluable during this challenging time.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This is now three weeks after the fire, and I can finally speak about it.

You never think something like this will happen to you. We came home from Pietermaritzburg at 06:00.

At 08:00 we woke up to our whole life burning to the ground. The books that burned were my collection that I gathered through years of school and teaching, including my degrees and the only photos I have with my parents.

Thanks to your support, we are slowly starting to rebuild our lives. However, we still urgently require educational materials to continue our work and support the children we teach.

We are reaching out to ask for donations of books, textbooks (in any condition, as we can repair them), stationery, screens, laptops, headphones, calculators, and any other educational tools.

If you have any spare educational materials or know someone who might be able to help, please consider donating.

Every little bit helps and brings us one step closer to getting back on our feet. Our house was not just a home; it was a haven for our students, here they felt secure and had everything they needed.

At this stage, we are still looking for a place to call home in Vanderbijl to assist our students, but we are working from a relative’s house.

Thank you to all who helped, to the fire department, the ambulance, and the amazing souls that gave me hope in the love of community again. Thank you.

Thank you once again for your continued support and generosity. We are incredibly grateful to be part of such a caring and compassionate community.

With heartfelt thanks,

Brigette Windt & Michaela Loggenberg, Timeless Knowledge Learning Center
