How to make multi-coloured eggs for Easter

No matter what technique you choose, decorating Easter eggs is a fun and creative way to celebrate the season with your children.

Easter is a fun time to get creative with your family and create beautiful, colourful Easter eggs. While dyeing eggs in a single colour is traditional, multi-coloured eggs can be a unique and eye-catching way to celebrate the season. In this article, we will go over everything you need to know to make multi-coloured Easter eggs with your family.

Items you will need

  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • White vinegar
  • Food colouring in multiple colours
  • Cups or containers for dyeing
  • Spoons
  • Paper towels

Method

  1. Place the eggs in a pot and cover with cold water. Bring the water to a boil, then remove the pot from the heat and let the eggs sit in the hot water for 10-12 minutes. Once they’re finished, remove the eggs from the water and let them cool.
  2. In separate containers, mix food colouring with a tablespoon of white vinegar and enough water to fill the container. You can mix and match different colours to create your desired effect. Make sure the containers are deep enough to fully submerge the eggs.
  3. Using a spoon, carefully place the egg in one of the dye containers. Let it sit for a few minutes until it has reached the desired colour. Using a different spoon, transfer the egg to another colour dye and repeat the process. You can continue to transfer the egg to different colours until you achieve the desired effect. Be sure to fully submerge the egg in each container for an even coat of colour.
  4. Once the eggs are fully dyed, remove them from the dye and place them on paper towels to dry. You can let them dry completely before handling them.
  5. If you want to add more depth to your multi-coloured eggs, you can use a white crayon or wax to create designs or patterns on the eggs before dyeing them. The wax will resist the dye and create a unique effect.
  6. Multi-coloured Easter eggs are a fun and festive way to celebrate the season. You and your child can experiment with different colour combinations to create a unique look.
