Madiba magic and Oliver Lodge primary school

Madiba magic and Oliver Lodge primary school

VANDERBIJLPARK. -The staff and learners at Oliver Lodge Primary school in Vanderbijlpark embraced the opportunity to follow in Madiba’s footsteps.

In order to commemorate the centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela, the learners collected canned and non-perishable foods. The effort was hugely successful and quite a few boxes were donated to the Umephi Group children’s home. The food was handed to Ms A Engelbrecht of Villa Lubet in Christiaan De Wet Street, Vanderbijlpark and to Ms Ester Fourie of Trentico in Three Rivers, Vereeniging. This will go far in feeding hungry children and both these housemothers expressed their deep gratitude towards Oliver Lodge.

In another charity project continuously run by the school, learners are taught to recycle responsibly.  Bottle tops and bread tags are collected and after every 450 Kg collected, the school receives a wheel chair. This is the 6th wheel chair the school managed to obtain and this time they were privileged enough to donate the chair to one of their own. The chair was given to Mrs Betsy Pretorius, a 91 year-old retired teacher and proud Lodgie. Mrs Pretorius taught at Oliver Lodge Primary for 36 years and on receipt shared her wisdom and memories with the children and staff of the school.

It is certainly a heart-warming feeling to see Madiba’s legacy in action and staff and learners of the Oliver Lodge Primary School will most definitely continue to assist the underprivileged in years to come.
