R59 accident claims the life of one

One person has died and at least twelve others have been injured after a taxi rolled multiple times on the R59 in Alberton, Gauteng. The exact detail to the cause of the accident will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.

Netcare911 paramedics worked alongside various emergency services on scene. Reports from the scene indicate that eight people are in a critical condition and the rest sustained moderate injuries.

The Netcare1 helicopter was dispatched to the scene to airlift a critically injured man to a level 1 trauma facility in Johannesburg for further medical care.

One other person was airlifted by another emergency service provider. The rest of the injured were transported by ambulance to various hospitals in the area for further medical care. One person was declared dead on the scene.

This accident happened this morning at about 06h00.
