Igesund leaves it in Safa’s hands

Gordon Igesund says everything rests on Safa’s shoulders with regard to his squad for next year’s Chan tournament on home soil.

“I have submitted everything to the president and CEO and now I am waiting for them to handle it,” Igesund said.

Igesund is likely to have a headache next month as PSL teams Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have showed little interest in releasing players for Bafana for the upcoming Chan tournament.

The Bafana coach said his duty had been done and now everything rested upon his superiors at Safa House.

“As far as I am concerned all is done from my side,” he said.

Igesund is currently in Lesotho supporting the Under-20 side which plays today’s final of the Cosafa Cup against Kenya.

“Yes, I am here to show support,” he said.

Igesund’s mission to get his best players for Chan has always been an Achilles heel for him

The tournament is not Fifa sanctioned and teams such as Chiefs and Pirates don’t want to release their key players for such a low profile tournament.

This was the same case when Igesund called up players for the Cosafa Cup Senior Challenge which took place in Zambia last June.

While other countries such Nigeria have already released their squad for the tournament, Igesund is still in the dark if whether he will get the players he called for the tournament.
