WSU looked likely to surprise the home side in the first half after taking the lead, but goals by substitute Graeme Dor and Saluleko Mathonsi completed a great comeback in the second half for Wits.
UP-Tuks booked a semifinal spot and brought an end to VUT’s (Vaal University of Technology) campaign with a clinical 2-0 victory in Pretoria on Monday.
The two-time champions scored both goals in the first half to secure the three points which books them a place in the play-offs, although they will have to wait for the result of TUT’s clash with NWU-Pukke on Thursday to know if they will be playing home or away.
NMMU-Madibaz defied the odds to emerge 2-1 victors over log leaders UWC, to hand the Cape side their first defeat of the campaign in Port Elizabeth.
The Cape side looked flat but the defeat did nothing to dent their log position as the Madibaz registered their first three points of the tournament.
It was all UWC in the opening exchanges and their dominance nearly reaped reward in the fifth minute when Thulani Mkosi broke through the Madibaz’ defence but his shot was well saved by Matthew Booysen.
