Dames left Eskom with full pockets

Former Eskom CEO Brian Dames left the company at the end of March this year with R15.3 million in his pocket.

Dames’s total remuneration for 2013/14 of R15 367 000 was considerably more than the R8 464 000 in the previous year.

This, acting CEO Collin Matjila said on Thursday, consisted of back-dated salary increases after the minister of public enterprises earlier put a moratorium on salary increases of CEO’s of state owned companies, accumulated leave and long-term incentives, as well as his normal pay.

Five out of seven other executive committee members saw a decrease in their remuneration. Matjile said this related to the earlier announcement that they would be sacrificing their bonuses. In total these committee members received R28.6 million, compared to R33.7 million in the previous year.

Eskom chairman Zola Tsotsi saw an increase in his remuneration from R1.3 million in the previous year to R1.7 million.

In total Eskom directors and executive committee members’ remuneration amounted to R60.1 million in FY2014, compared to R57.4 million in the previous year.
