Bidvest Wits will come back a stronger outfit in the next campaign, coach Gavin Hunt predicts, after losing 3-1 to Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

The Clever Boys had a solid season, finishing third in the Absa Premiership in Hunt’s first season with the side.

Their league run, however, was overshadowed by the cup defeat which left the Wits camp frustrated, not just with the loss but with the officiating from referee Zolile Mthetho.

Hunt was visibly upset but refused to criticise the referee.

“I can’t say (anything about the officiating), or I’ll get a letter on Monday,” he said, referring to the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee.

“You can write what you want to write but we all know there should have been red cards and they would have changed the complexion of the game.

“So we must live with that.”
