A dramatic final day of the National First Division (NFD) saw Baroka FC knocked out of their promotion playoff spot, with Black Leopards and Milano FC qualifying for the three-team mini-tournament.

The two First Division outfits will join Polokwane City in the playoffs that start on Wednesday.

Leopards booked their place with a 2-0 win over Jomo Cosmos at Makhulong Stadium yesterday while Milano fought back from 2-0 down to beat NFD champions Chippa United 3-2.

Baroka’s 1-1 draw with Thanda Royal Zulu shattered their dreams of playing in the Premier League.

A superior goal difference pushed Leopards to second place, with Milano third and Baroka fourth after all three teams finished the season on 50 points.

Lidoda Duvha have been in this situation before. Their experience guided them past Ezenkosi in a match they needed to win to cement their place in the top three.

Not only did Leopards have the most vocal fans in Cosmos’ backyard, but they also got the better of Ezenkosi on the field.

Leopards started the match looking the livelier of the two teams, with Mumuni Abubakar coming close to finding the opening goal, but he fluffed his chance.

Lebogang Mabotja, pictured, did not falter, however, piercing his shot past three Cosmos defenders and Theletsane to hand Leopards the lead in referee’s optional time in the first half.

Shortly after the start of the second period, Siphelele Ntshangase doubled the visitors’ lead with a tap-in to send Leopards to the playoffs.
