“It is a huge compliment, but at the same time it puts a lot of pressure on us,” says guitarist Mthabisi Sibanda.
“Jimmy Dludlu’s fans are a bit older and have a very high music literacy. So we’ve been rehearsing hard to make sure we are at our very best.”
Despite a big fan base and a massive social media following, the five musicians still regard themselves newcomers in the music industry. The group started at the University of Johannesburg, where three of the members were singing in the choir. After performing at a competition in Melville, they brought the judges to tears.
It was at this point that they realised there was something special about their sound.
