Take ex-Lamborghini leading engineer and test driver, Claudio Zampolli, legendary supercar designer, Marcello Gandini, and famous composer and multiple Academy Award winner Giorgio Moroder (of Flashdance, Midnight Express and Top Gun film score fame), add Italian creativity and a desire to create something ground-breaking in the automotive world, and hey presto – the Cizeta-Moroder V16T is born.
Following an increasingly established pattern of offering vehicles with an unusual or even unique background, leading classic and specialist vehicle online auction platform Car & Classic is offering the opportunity to own a piece of Italian motoring history: the only styling model of one of the rarest sportscars ever built, by famed names for a famed composer.
“The Cizeta bears the initials of Claudio Zampolli, who literally put his name on the back of the car,” explains Car & Classic head of editorial, Chris Pollitt.
“Those extreme lines may remind you of the Lamborghini Diablo and you’d be right, as they were penned by Gandini, the Lamborghini Miura’s chief designer.”
As a styling prototype, the bright red wood and composite model has no drivetrain: it was the basis for famous composer and song writer Giorgio Moroder’s Cizeta-Moroder V16T, powered by a transverse-mounted V16 engine (technically, two flat plane V8s). Zampolli and Moroder had been drawn together by their mutual love for Lamborghini sportscars when they decided to launch the Cizeta venture.
“This styling model belongs to a classic car collection or even a museum,” says Pollitt.
“It would not be out of place among a collection of other prototypes, or perhaps Italian sportscars. It is a completely original, unmolested, and clear legacy of a time when talented people decided to create a unique car and just went ahead and did it.”
