Colour trends for the new season

Give your interior walls a revamp with these gorgeous new paint colourways

A new season brings new energy, and there’s no better way to capture it in your living space than with colour. Accessories such as scatters and vases have their place, but if you really want to make an impact, look to paint.

Jillian Kay, the décor category manager at Leroy Merlin, shines the spotlight on these three new colour collections:

Modern Neutrals
This trend includes tonal beige and slightly greyish hues. It can be used with wood, stone, plaster, and natural fibres to create a clean, calming environment.

Glamour

Here you’ll find nudes and beiges that are associated with light gold, bronze, copper, blush, iridescent surfaces and metallic reflections – think “blush house”.

Bohemian

Visualise a desert rose and warm, earthy neutrals with a discrete pop of colour. Paint colours include beige, white, brown, and terracotta, and can be combined with hand-crafted and irregular-shaped decor and textiles.

According to Jillian, these colour trends are being driven by a new sense of connection with our homes. “The world is slowly recovering… (and) building a sanctuary-like environment has become a core focus when redecorating. My favourite trend is Modern Neutrals as it creates a sense of peacefulness that allows you to let go of the weight of the day.”

To introduce any of these trends into your home, Jillian recommends first clearing out the relevant rooms and starting with tonal colours, then layering textured throws, warm-coloured handmade ornaments, and curtains in natural hues.

When it comes to specific paint products, she advises looking out for the Versus stucco range of paints as they create a  “brushed raw effect that’s perfect for a natural-looking finish”. Jillian also mentions Versus’ range of antibacterial paints in Viridian – a striking green “go-to” colour this year.
