Sia feels at home on the big stage

The 20-year-old said making it to this stage of the competition is surreal.

Tsakani’s very own Siyabonga (Sia) Mzizi has made it to SA Idols Top 16.
Now, he is counting on those who appreciate his talent to vote him into the Top 10.
The 20-year-old said making it to this stage of the competition is surreal.
“It still feels like a dream. A dream come true.
“I think the first time I realised that I was vocally gifted was in 2014 when I was in Grade Eight.
“I had my first theatre experience in high school. That’s when it sunk in,” he said.
This is not Sia’s first rodeo with the singing competition.
He previously auditioned for SA Idols in 2018 and said the greatest lesson he took away from that experience was that he needs to believe in his voice.

“I need to stay true to my artistry and be open to constructive criticism.
“People have been telling me to enter for the Idols SA competition, but I honestly took this decision on my own.
“It was my idea. I needed to introduce Sia Mzizi to the world,” he added.
Sia’s favourite South African music icon is Busi Mhlongo.
“She is true to her artistry! She heals,” he said.
A former Idols contestant Sia is most inspired by is Loyiso Gijana.
“He entered Idols at a very young age but he still inspired with his beautiful voice,” said Sia.
The singer explained he would love to collaborate with Oscar Mbo.
“I love how much attention he pays to even the smallest details in the music,” he said.
Even though he praises his mother and sister as his greatest supporters, Sia said he is grateful for all the love he gets from the community.

“I get super emotional whenever I go through their posts on all the social media platforms because I’ve never had so many people believe in me.
“I need them to know that I can’t imagine embarking on this journey without them being by my side.
“I appreciate and love them so much,” he explained.
He added he has a few tricks up his arm for the remainder of the show.
Idols SA is screened exclusively on Mzansi Magic (DStv 161) on Sundays at 17:30.
Voting opens after the show.
