Fuss-free Sunday outings with kids in tow

Sometimes there are just too many things to think about when you have a baby or toddler that you might just prefer not to leave the house. But, with a little planning, you can make it out the door in record time and go on a fun Sunday outing.

Being organised is key

So what is the secret to being an organised mom or dad?

• Always having a stocked nappy bag on-hand to pick up and go. Ideally, you should clear it out every time you return from an outing and restock it right away.
• Remember to dress your baby appropriately for the weather and the outing. This means that if you plan to wear a hat, your baby should always have a hat.
• Dressing her in layers of comfortable clothing is key, and a light blanket for the car or pram is essentials.
• Whether you plan to take your baby out in a pram or keep her close to you in a sling or baby carrier, make sure you have your equipment ready at the door or in the car. And remember to pack a snack and water for yourself.

Here’s a list of essential and optional items when taking your baby out. Keep a printed list in a pocket of the bag to make it easy to check if you have everything you need.

• Changing mat
• Three to four nappies
• A small pack of wipes (or take a few from your bathroom pack and keep them in a Ziploc bag)
• Nappy cream
• Bottle of water (for emergency clean-ups)
• Cloth nappy or small towel
• Plastic bag for rubbish
• Receiving blanket
• Full change of clothes and undies for your baby
• Warm top
• Sun hat or warm bonnet (depending on the weather)
• Sunscreen
• Bottles, formula, and cooled boiled water (if you’re not breastfeeding)
• Dummy
• Mini first-aid kit
• Packaged snack (for mom or dad).
