If you’re prone to hoarding products and you forget to check expiry dates, this is how long your beauty essentials will really last.

  • Bath oil: one year
  • Blush: two years
  • Body lotion: two years
  • Concealer: one year
  • Deodorant: one to two years
  • Eye cream: one year
  • Eyeshadow: two years
  • Hairbrush: one to two years but wash it once a month
  • Hair spray: two to three years
  • Lipgloss and liners: one year
  • Lipstick: Two years
  • Liquid foundation: one year
  • Make-up sponge: one month
  • Mascara: three to six months
  • Nail polish: four years
  • Soap bars: 18 months to three years
  • Perfume: up to four years
  • Powder: two years
  • Self-tan: six months to a year
  • Shampoo: two to three years
  • Shaving cream: two years
  • Soap bars: 8 months to three years
  • Sponge and loofahs: six months
  • Toothbrush: three months  

If you decide to declutter

Get rid of expired medicines, bath and beauty products you don’t use and nail polishes you don’t like. Then look at your multiples: you seriously don’t need four pairs of tweezers. And if you once bought a beauty or spa appliance such as a foot bath, and it’s just collecting dust, get rid of it. Old towels must go too.
