Resident making a difference in the lives of learners

The initiative aims to assist primary school learners (including Grade R) with homework, reading, life skills and social development.

Tsakani – Nondumiso Gama (23), founder of Wise-Up Learning Programme, is pleading with the community for stationery donations.
The initiative aims to assist primary school learners (including Grade R) with homework, reading, life skills and social development.
It was started in 2019 by Gama, who is studying towards a diploma in education at Edu-Build Institute.
“Our main focus is on mathematics, English, Afrikaans and isiZulu; however, we assist learners with other subjects as well.

“The reason for me to start this initiative was mainly due to my passion for children. In addition, I wanted to give back to my community.
“This initiative also helps working parents who do not find time to assist their children with schoolwork and so forth,” explained Gama.
The classes will commence on February 1.
To accommodate and adhere to Covid-19 regulations, classes will be divided into two groups.
“If the child on that day is not going to school they can attend our class from 11am until 2pm. Those who will be coming back from school, we start at 2pm until 5.30pm.
“We provide learners with stationery to meet our etiquette standards, as we all know people don’t come from similar backgrounds,” she added.
