Kwa-Thema – Police have warned taxi commuters to be vigilant when travelling from the township.
This comes after reports that male occupants of a white Toyota Quantum are robbing unsuspecting commuters.
Kwa-Thema police spokesperson Sgt Media Khoza said a woman fell victim while on her way to town on Saturday
afternoon.
After boarding the taxi, which had a few male occupants, the victim was threatened at gunpoint.

“It is alleged before she could sit down a firearm was pointed at her and she was told to lie down.
“They searched her and robbed her of her belongings before dropping her off.
“We urge commuters to be careful when they board taxis, especially women who are travelling alone or late at night.
“They should avoid taxis full of men for their own safety,” she said.
Khoza urged motorist to be careful when visiting social events and gatherings, sheebeens and pubs in KwaThema.
“Criminals are now targeting vehicles that are left unattended by owners on roadsides and these vehicles are either stolen or broken into.

“Motorists are encouraged to seek safe and secure parking and avoid leaving valuables, such as laptops and cellphones, inside the vehicles.
“Community members can report any suspicious activities to the police by contacting Crime Stop on 08600 10 111,
their nearest police station or through the MySaps app,” she added.
