Solidarity in e-racing series

Since the first cases of COVID-19 were confirmed almost all motoring shows and motorsport events have been cancelled, leaving motoring enthusiast in lockdown without any entertainment.

Intending to change that, the Solidarity e-Race online event, sponsored by Afrihost, Data Sciences, Pure Storage and NEC is will provide all motorsport enthusiasts with an opportunity to not only witness a race taking place on the historic Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit but to be part of the action. Anyone with a computer or gaming rig compatible with Assetto Corsa Competizione, the official game of the Blancpain GT series, can install the popular racing simulator and book their seat for the competition.

Not only will they be competing with other motorsport enthusiasts but also professional racing drivers like Intercontinental GT driver Kelvin vd Linde, Sauber F1 Development driver Stuart White, VW Polo Cup driver and multiple SA Karting champion Kwanda Mokoena and former VW Polo Cup champion Chris Shorter.

While this will make for an exciting online racing series and a great way for gamers at home testing their skills against some of the best racing talents from South Africa, the real winners are small to medium business enterprises. Fifty per cent of the entry fees collected for the Solidarity e-Race online event will be donated to the Solidarity Fund which was created to support businesses during the challenges presented by the national lockdown.

The event will have multiple qualifying races taking place from 08h00, 9 April to 08h00, 14 April 2020 after which the top 100 fastest competitors will go into the second round. The second round or rather semifinals will consist of 4 races, each competed by 25 drivers and will take place at 19h00 on 14 April 2020. The winners of each of these races will then head into what can only be expected to be a highly competitive final race at 19h00 on 15 April 2020. Not only will winners be able to walk away with bragging rights but also their share of the R20 000 cash prizes and other products from the sponsors to the value of R30 000.
