Community, an unlikely family

This is not a laugh- a-minute show, in fact, it initially comes off as snarky, but as it progresses you realise there is a tender undercurrent to it as the group members bond and realise they truly are a community.

Greendale Community College is the setting for Community, a comedy about an accidental study group led by Jeff Winger (played by Joel McHale), who together with six other outcasts form a surrogate family.

Winger’s brand of sarcasm and cynicism makes the perfect backdrop for the other six characters, who range from Annie (portrayed by Alison Brie), who got addicted to pills in high school and was rejected from every university she applied to, Troy (played by Danny Glover) a vacant jock who immediately clicks with pop-culture obsessed Abed (Danny Pudi), Britta (Gillian Jacobs)  a snarky, woman who hates anything cool as she finds it pretentious, Shirley (Yvette Brown) a single mom of two who’s just finding her feet after a divorce, and Pierce (Chevy Chase), an elderly man whose singular talent is making offensive jokes about everything.
