New owner at Gold Nugget wants to maintain tradition

The Gold Nugget Steakhouse has been one of the most frequented and loved restaurants in Springs since the early 1980s.
Food lovers from all over the city would enjoy the establishment’s famous steaks and ribs.
The restaurant’s combination of Greek and Mediterranean delicacies creates a unique creole that has seen three generations pack the booths and tables every night.
One of the restaurant’s many attractions is its charming host, Costatinos Athanasial, who ensured that all his guests were getting the best experience the place could offer.

However, as of November 1, ownership has changed and the helm has now been passed on to Manny de Goaveia.
The Addie sat down with de Goaveia for an interview.
What made you decide to take over the Gold Nugget?
I have always heard so many good things about it and I saw it as a great challenge.
What will be your biggest challenge now that you have taken over ownership?
I think it will be to maintain the high standards that have made it so famous for decades and to keep the old clientele coming back.
What did you hear about the restaurant that made you curious?
Everyone I have spoken to loves the place. It has an amazing history and I wanted to be a part of that.
What do you want people to experience when they come here?
People love the comfort and the beautiful decor. They associate the place with great memories from their past and I want to keep it that way.
I also want them to experience value for money, a cozy environment, good food and good company.

But, most importantly, it’s a family restaurant and I want to keep it that way.
Which dishes do customers love the most?
People love our ribs, steaks and all our meats, really.
What new things would you like to bring to the restaurant?
I would really like to start attracting the younger generations.
While Athanasial will be sorely missed by lovers of Gold Nugget, de Goaveia will ensure that lovers of the restaurant will receive the same treatment and delicious food that they have enjoyed for so many generations.
