Police to open inquest into man hit by train in Grootvlei

According to the train driver, the victim was sitting on the railway tracks and despite the driver hooting and trying to slow down to avoid hitting the man, the victim made no attempt to get up or flee.

 

The Springs police will open an inquest after a man was hit and killed by a train at around 10am on Sunday morning.

On arrival at the train tracks next to Grootvlei, the police found a man, approximately 58 years old, dead.

According to the train driver, the victim was sitting on the railway tracks and despite the driver hooting and trying to slow down to avoid hitting the man, the victim made no attempt to get up or flee.

The victim sustained serious head injuries and his leg was amputated.

The police are still investigating the possibility that the man was under the influence of drugs as two tins of glue were found next to his body.
