Women taking charge of property market

The fight for equal rights between men and women has been a long struggle, but when it comes to property for sale in Springs and the rest of Gauteng, it seems that change is on the horizon. In recent data from Lightstone, women are starting to dominate in the property market.

The age of empowered women is slowly becoming a reality, and this is reflected in the amount of property for sale in Springs and the rest of Gauteng being grabbed by single females.

Some may not see this as a significant step, but data from Lightstone, a trusted source for research into the automotive and property market, has shown that change in the property market is on the cards.

Since 2016, there has been a large rise in the amount of single females purchasing property, and recently they have topped the list, ahead of the likes of single males and married couples when it comes to the amount of properties being bought.

According to Lightstone’s lead analyst, Cindy Bezuidenhout, the data that has emerged could point to the fact that women are starting to enjoy more economic power.

When looking a little deeper, Gauteng province showed the most significant change with single women dominating ahead of married couples and single men. This was also the case in the Eastern Cape, although the gap was not as major.

Other major provinces, namely the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, were still dominated by married couples purchasing property, but single women had moved up to second on the list, surpassing the purchases made by single men.

However, not all the data indicated to good news. When it came to sales prices, single women were in the bottom bracket on the same list, and Bezuidenhout pointed to the fact that the earning differences between males and females could be responsible for this.

Important steps have certainly been made, but it seems that there is still some way to go before true equality is achieved.
