The festive season is a great time for spending time with loved ones – and what better way to chill than summer cocktails. Here are three cocktails recommended by Tops at Spar. These great cocktails can be had with or without alcohol – making them a great addition to any summertime festive vibe.

Recipe of the day: South African vinegar pudding

Berry Mule

You will need:

2 tsp mixed berry jam

Juice of one lemon

Ginger beer

Fresh berries and a sprig of mint to garnish

Method:

Put the jam into a cocktail shaker and add the lemon juice and a large scoop of ice.

Shake and strain the mixture into a tall glass filled with ice. Top it up with ginger beer and garnish with fresh mixed berries and a sprig of mint. For an alcoholic twist, a shot of rum can be added.

Mojito

You will need:

1 tsp castor sugar

Fresh mint leaves

Limes

Soda water

Method:

Cut the lemons into quarters and add them to a glass with fresh mint. Add sugar and use a muddler to extract the juices. Fill the glass with ice and top with soda water and mint to garnish. Rum can be added to make the cocktail alcoholic.

La Fresa

You will need:

20ml sugar syrup

25ml fresh lime juice

50ml strawberry puree

Fresh strawberry and sprig of basil

Method:

Add all the ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker and shake well. Strain into a tall glass filled with fresh ice and garnish with a fresh strawberry wedge and a sprig of basil. Add some rum to shake it up.
