Jazz picnic in honour of Dr Johnny Mekoa

The 13th annual B3 2019 jazz and soul picnic hosted by the B3 Insurance Brokers, Dovola and Friend and Music Academy of Gauteng

The 13th annual B3 2019 jazz and soul picnic hosted by the B3 Insurance Brokers, Dovola and Friend and Music Academy of Gauteng, will pay tribute to the late Johnny Mekoa, the legendary jazzophile and music teacher who died a year ago.

The tribute will be held at KwaThema Stadium on January 1.

The organisers present the 13th Annual Jazz and Soul Picnic with a spectacular line up of artists that “will bring you grace, blessings and compassion”.

This tribute to Mekoa will see the audience entertained by SAMAs and Metro winners, Vusi Nova, Ringo Madlingozi alongside legendary Hotstix Mabuse, Paul Hanmer and McCoy Mrubata.

Pure jazz enthusiasts will be treated to the acclaimed sounds of Paul Hanmer and McCoy, Monk Molelekwa Band, the sort-after trumpeter, Ndumiso Nyovane and the Mekoa’s Gauteng Music Orchestra Band.

The audience will be taken on a memorable musical journey with DJ’s Paul Mtirara, KG Moeketsi (Radio 2000) and DJ Dlamini socking it out to them.

The organisers said the tribute will have an opportunity to showcase young talent groomed by the Music Academy of Gauteng.

Tickets went live on Monday at Computicket/Shoprite.

“It is with more than a pleasure to play at this festival. KwaThema holds a very special place in the history of South African music with thrilling fan-base music lovers,” said Sipho Hotstix Mabuse.

“Sincerely looking forward to ushering in 2019 with the masses in KwaThema,” was Vusi Nova’s comment.

The performances will be accompanied by a live band. It is expected new material and classics will be performed and will send cold shivers down the spine of music lovers and revellers.

Doors open at noon and performance is scheduled to start at 2pm and will continue until late.
