The search is on for the best potjiekos in town

Do you think that your potjiekos is the best in Springs or even SA?

Then it’s time to take note of the Meat World Potjiekos Competition, and community fun day, which will take place on July 28 at the Springs Market.

Aside from the potjie competition, which will end with the public being able to buy food from the pots, there will be lots of entertainment for the entire family as well as a host of flea market stalls.

The day is being organised by Lefra Productions which means you are guaranteed the entertainment will be top notch.

The potjie competition starts at 8am and runs until 1pm with huge prizes on offer.

The winner – he or she with the best potjie pot – will win meat to the value of R5 000.

The second and third prizes are valued at R2 500 and R1 000 respectively.

There is no theme for the day, so entrants can choose their own themes but you must use meat in your potjie.

All food must be prepared on site and you will be required to prepare at least one side dish to go with your potjiekos.

Meat World will donate the meat needed by each entrant.

Your food will be judged by well-known TV personalities and singers including Ben Kruger, who is known for his role in Binnelanders.

He is also a potjiekos fundi with a wealth of experience in both the making and judging of potjies.

He recently cooked 40 potjies by himself at the Innibos Arts Festival for charity.

“This was quite a challenge and a wonderful experience, but I will never do it again!” he says.

The judging panel will be rounded off by singer Alwyn Oberholster who will also entertain entrants and visitors alike with music from his latest CD Maak of Breek.

All money raised from selling this food will be donated to a Springs charity so come hungry and support the competitors and the chosen (as yet unnamed) charity alike.
