The Midnight Train to Motown heads your way

Jump on board The Midnight Train to Motown at Carnival City where a vibrant cast of performers will transform the Mardi Gras Theatre into the heartbeat of American pop music and pay tribute to multi-platinum greats from the past who knew no rival.

Filled to the brim with nostalgia, this tribute show, featuring Cape Town’s Great Pretenders, celebrates likes of Diana Ross and The Supremes, Four Tops, Gladys Knight, Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandros, Smokey Robinson and other evergreen artists.

Renowned and acclaimed impresario, Jayson King (now 73) has taken this production all over South Africa over the past 25 years making it one of the most notable musical tribute shows in the country spanning from the ‘60s to now.

Lead singer and vocal powerhouse of the show, Ruth Knight, will belt out the voice stylings of Natalie Cole, Gladys Knight and Gloria Gaynor backed by Port Elizabeth singer Charmaine Allisson, a Tina Turner look-alike and sound-alike who brings the Queen of Rock to life on stage.

Joining Knight and Allisson on stage is special guest artist, Belinda Qaqamba Fassie, one of the country’s finest “drag” acts performing tributes to Grace Jones, Diana Ross and Ami Stewart.

Fassie’s costumes are stunning and her performance sends shivers down the spine.

Jayson acts as host and MC, introducing some of Elvis Presley and Wilson Pickett’s Soul and Rock ’n Roll hits – some great inspiration to Motown recording artists back in the day.

“This is definitely an exciting show for us and we are thrilled to be offering our guests entertainment of this calibre,” says Michelle Smith, marketing manager of Carnival City.

Think Detroit, RnB, Rock ’n Roll and Soul. Think The Jackson 5, Diana Ross and The Supremes, The Temptations, Whitney Houston, The Four Tops, Lionel Ritchie and The Commodores.

Think good vibes, nostalgia, grooving and party all under one roof.

Get your friends and family together and make your way to Carnival City for a show you’ll never forget.

The show takes place at 8pm on June 29 and 30.
