Short acting course leads to a staring role

Two Dal Fouche women is eager to start their acting career.

Dal Fouche resident Madelein Erasmus (22) recently attended a film and acting course held by Renier Weideman, the Hartsbegeertes movie actor and producer, and will soon feature in a 12 minute short film.

She says she found information on social media about the gospel actor’s course.

“I have learned so much and it was a privilege to work with Renier,” she says.

Madelein, who asked her friend, Crystal van der Merwe (22), to attend the course with her, says she is ecstatic at having been offered a role in the film.

“I only wanted to attend acting classes but instead was offered a role in a short film.

“The six weeks course was a wonderful experience where I learned a lot about myself.

“We learned not to be concerned about what others think of us and just to be yourself,” she says.

Madelein says she has always wanted to be an actor and hopes the short film will open doors for her.

“To be able to act you have express emotions through words and although it is emotionally exhausting it was fun too,” says Madelein.

Crystal says she gained more confidence.

“We learned you don’t necessarily have to play in a big movie to become an actor; you can create content on social media, which was part of our training,” she says.

She claims it is a lot of emotional pressure to change characters.

“I hadn’t found my inner self until I completed the course,” says Crystal.
