It documents how the Chief Investigating Officer of the Van Dorn Detective Agency, Isaac Bell, is hired to track the daughter of a newly rich William Pape.

Anna Pape has left home, like many others ignorant of the dangers lurking, to fulfill her dream of becoming a stage actress.

The story takes a gruesome turn when the young woman’s body is found only weeks after Bell has begun his search for her.

The detective then goes on a quest to solve the murder, which he starts to believe is connected to a few others.

Could there be a serial killer on the loose? Is the Cutthroat Jack the Ripper?

Bell disguises himself as a theatre ‘angel’ (investor) to get involved in the action, putting himself and those around him in great danger.
