Celebrate Day of Reconciliation in colour

The Colour in the Sun festival will feature some of the best local DJs at Carnival City, from 11am on Friday.

So, get ready to splash coloured powder all over each other and enjoy the vibe of this bright celebration.

The event is a premier colour festival promoting unity and equality while celebrating youth, togetherness and fun.

Inspired by the traditional Festival of Colours, in India, the event will see spectacular entertainment by well-known DJs and tons of powder-infused fun.

DJs Kent, Kwesta, Dimplez, Twins on Decks, Busi N and Major Leauge will be in action on the day.

“Celebrate the Day of Reconciliation with awesome music, a super-charged vibe and loads of colour.

Laugh, dance and play the day away in the spirit of togetherness for which this international festival is renowned,” says Michelle Smith, marketing manager at Carnival City.

She says this festival derives from an ancient Hindu festival celebrating springtime, love and, of course, colours.

It has recently spread from its origins in India and Nepal to parts of Europe as a non-religious day to reflect equality and togetherness.

The popular event encourages festival-goers to dress in white and enjoy a day of top dance music and to throw coloured powder at each other.

All colours consist of corn starch and an aromatic substance.

Aromatic substances include lavender, lavender oil, sage, dill, 2-undecanone, chamomile, rosemary, rosemary oil and acetic acid.

The colours are red, green, pink, orange, blue and yellow.
