Chain Dolls dancers

A group of five dancers from Dance Directions Springs competed in the annual informal Mi Talent dance competition recently held at the Rand Show.

Dance Directions Springs group choreographer and dance teacher Mariska Wolmarans says the group did not win, but she is very proud of her team.

The theme for the day was Chain Dolls and the group were dressed up accordingly.

The judges were impressed and the girls qualified for the semi-finals, which took place on March 28.

The group qualified again to compete in the finals, which took place on April 3.

“Out of 160 performances, we were chosen for the 30 best performances to participate in the finals,” says Mariska.

On the day of the final the Dance Direction team took to the stage as Diversity Divas.

Although there was no specific dance chosen for the competition, the group chose to combine contemporary disco, hip-hop, Latin, Bollywood, kwaito and jazz in a five-minute mixed performance.

“We did not win the competition, but I am very proud of my team and will definitely enter the competition as a much stronger team next year,” says Mariska.
