Let them drink wine and whisky

Wine and whisky connoisseurs and fanatics will be champing at the bit for the arrival of April, when the Ekurhuleni Wine & Whisky Festival will take place at Emperors Palace.

The three-day event, from April 1 to 3, will see premium whisky and wine paired with delectable food and ambient entertainment.

“The Ekurhuleni Wine & Whisky Festival is poised to become a hallmark annual affair that will fuse entertainment and empowerment in such a manner that it will have a lasting, positive impact on the Ekurhuleni community,” says Tshepang Lustaba from Asakhe Events, which is co-hosting the festival with SA Wine.

On April 1, a workshop will be hosted to present owners of taverns, restaurants and liquor stores with an opportunity to meet top distilleries and wineries.

Here they will also sample products and learn the finer details about whisky and wine.

In addition, 30 to 40 young adults will be trained to act as runners and promoters both during the build-up and during the event itself.

“A significant amount of time will be invested in training these youngsters to ensure that they retain the skills.

“The idea is to keep on utilising them for other promotions right through the year,

“They will not only gain people skills and marketing skills, but will also receive formal wine appreciation training from SA Wines,” says Lustaba.

On April 2 and 3, festival goers will be entertained by Metro FM’s Pru, Joemann and Cubique, and local Kasi FM deejay, DJ MXO.

Aside from complimentary tastings at the various stalls, visitors will be able to buy merchandise at cellar prices.

A selection of scrumptious eats will complement the beverages, including freshly baked breads, a selection of cheeses, olives, oysters and cold meats.
