Molly Moon lives a miserable life under the awful Ms Adderstone, the woman in charge of the Hardwick House Orphanage in Briersville, England, where Molly lives.

Her only comfort is the friendship of the other children, especially best friend Rocky.

An avid reader, Molly discovers a book of hypnotism in the local library which sets her on an adventure aimed at making life better for her and the other children, but sees her getting into quite a bit of trouble.

From hypnotising Ms Adderstone to be nicer – with some hilarious and odd repercussions – to convincing the cook to prepare delicious Italian food instead of the standard fish head soup, Molly’s talents offer the viewer a great dollop of fun as you hitch a ride on this magical story where dreams do come true.

Having, she believes, put things at the orphanage right, Molly heads to London to find Rocky who has been adopted.

When he makes it clear that he is staying with his new family and won’t be returning to the orphanage with her, Molly decides to use her new gift to find fame and fortune.

Molly stays in London to pursue a life of television stardom, but is only able to convince people she is a great singer and dancers by hypnotising the crowd, a talent she soon realises makes her neither a star, nor happy.

Having tasted the good life, Molly discovers what is most important and her world is put to rights once more.

This is a great movie for kids with the required amount of exciting adventure, the baddy who chases Molly across London trying to get his hands on the book so he can rob a bank, and, of course, the moral to the story.

The movie is based on the book by the same name from the pen of Georgia Byng.

It is the first in the six-book Molly Moon series and should be a galloping success with younger children if you’re looking for something to keep them busy during the coming school holidays.
