There are a few life lessons to be learned in this story, which underlines the value of lifelong friendship.

Two lifelong friends, Lily (Dakota Fanning) and Gerry (Elizabeth Olsen) are making plans to lose their virginity before going to college and both fall for David (Boyd Holbrook).

This decision is celebrated with them stripping down naked on a crowded beach and running into the water in some kind of victory.

When they accidentally bump into David, both are excited by his disrespectful attitude towards the teenagers.

While Gerri is open to her feelings for David, Lily keeps her meetings with him a secret.

Keeping this from her friend becomes a burden to Lily and when Gerri’s father dies, she asks David to comfort Gerri.

When David asks Lily to reveal the truth to her friend she refuses and he decides it’s time to leave for Paris.

It is when he kisses Lily goodbye, with Gerri watching from a distance, that the real test of their friendship becomes a reality.
