SMOKIE headed to SA

SMOKIE will perform three shows in South Africa in October as part of their "Anthology of the World Tour".

Springs residents will be able to enjoy this five-man group in Carnival City’s Big Top Arena on October 10 (at 8pm) and 11 (at 6pm).

The British pop band, who are celebrating 40 years in the entertainment industry, will entertain with well-known hits like Living Next Door to Alice, Lay Back in the Arms of Someone, Mexican Girl, For a Few Dollars, Needles and Pins and If You Think You Know How to Love Me.

As part of their tour, they will be enthralling crowds across the globe, including those in Moscow, Sweden, Germany, Ireland, Austria, Norway, Spain, Denmark, Greenland, Scandinavia, Australia and South Africa.

Terrey Uttley, founder member of Smokie, said they are very excited to include South Africa in this celebratory tour.

“We will do something that we have never done before, and that is to start off the show with a 45-minute unplugged session, where we just bring

you some of our hits acoustically,” he says.

“Then we will have interval and then we will rock and roll as people got to know Smokie through the years!”

The SA leg of the tour is being promoted by Springs’ Lefra Productions.

Frans Swart, CEO of Lefra Productions, says he is very excited about Smokie visiting South Africa again.

“We organised three previous Smokie tours to South Africa a few years back,” he says.

“It was a sold out success with many extra shows that had to be scheduled.”

He says Smokie is one of those groups that understands how to entertain their audiences – from young to old.

“With all their international renowned hits and the talent as a band, audiences around the world party with them,” says Swart.

“I am also very excited about the brand new Smokie show with an unplugged session included in the show.”

While fans can expect a completely new show with new material, as in any Smokie show, the hits will definitely feature.

“Who can forget Alice?” says Swart.

Bookings can be made through Computicket, Lefra’s Monica Booysen (011) 815 3000 or email to info@lefra.com
