Dancing is fun

Local dancers received two gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

Students from Careen’s Pink Stetson Dance Academy brought home six medals from the recent South African Country and Western Dancing Gauteng Provincial Championships.

The local dancers received two gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

Dance instructor Careen van der Walt Muller says 12 of the 13 dancers received placings at the championships.

Lethuguhle Ngcobo (5) is a newcomer pre-primary dancer who came first in this division, received a gold medal and became the new Gauteng Champion of South African Country and Western Dancing

She also received her Gauteng colours at the same competition.

The u-6 pre-primary newcomers are Nolwandle Makgahlela (who came second), Charlotte Maleka (third), Nontsikilelo Sinothile (fourth), Avumile Mahambehlala (fifth), Tinyiko Mageza (sixth) and Abigail Jacobs (who took seventh place).

In the newcomer primary age six to nine years section, Chantelle Maleta came third and Courtney Hirst came fourth.

Danielle Nel took second place in the teens aged 14 to 17 years and Kayla Bloem came seventh.

Careen was the winner of the novice silver category and is also the new Gauteng Champion of South African Country and Western Dancing.

The students are currently practising for the upcoming SA Championships taking place in September.
