Blue Gum Jazz Band

Kwatsaduza's Blue Gum Jazz Band will be pre-launching its first debut album at the Springs Civic Centre.

The band performed at the Chris Hani memorial in Germiston along with well known artists such as Lira and Khabomu.

The band members are all originally from Kwatsaduza.

The band consists of four vocalists Nkululeko Jiyane, Siya Mandobe, Sibusiso Tshabalala and Mathapelo Ranthle.

The instrumentalists are Thabiso, Lezerick William, Butana Ngubeni, Kgotso Baleni and Dumisane Maphang.

Dumisane Maphang, manager of the band, says they started the band without even knowing it would be such a success.

He says the community of Kwatsaduza lacks interest in performing arts which makes it very difficult for the band to come to perform regularly.

Maphang also says the band decided to play jazz because a lot of great South African artists are jazz musicians.

He says they look up to artists such as Mirriam Makheba and Hugh Masikela.

Some of the reasons why the band was developed was to fight social issues in the community through their music.

The band will be pre-launching their debut album on December 6 at the Springs Civic Theatre.
