This family drama, produced by Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg, centres on a young Indian man Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) who, along with his family, is displaced from India and settles in a small French town.
There, the family opens a small Indian restaurant to the complete displeasure of local ice-queen Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren), who also just happens to be the proprietress of the French restaurant across the street.
Determined to defend what she sees as this outside incursion upon her turf, Madame Mallory sets out to make life unbearable for the new arrivals.
However, she hasn’t figured on the young Hassan, who is prepared to go to great lengths to find Madame Mallory’s soft side so that they may all live in peace.
