Video: You will need a tissue while watching this video; Hloni wows in SA Idols

Hloni Mahati (22) from KwaThema, Springs, was motivated to enter SA Idols 2014 because his late girlfriend believed in his talent.

He came straight to Pretoria after her funeral, and after getting the Golden Ticket, he said with tears in his eyes: “This is for my girlfriend.”

He was also inspired by the passing of his brother and then his sister in 2013, both of whom dreamed of entering Idols. His girlfriend fell ill last year October after giving birth to their daughter.

“I was in pain; I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t think it was real until I saw her at the funeral. She always wanted me to do this, she believed in me” In his audition he sang Maroon Five’s “Sunday Morning” which had the lovely Unathi Msingana in floods of tears by the time he sung the last note.

“I’m not crying cause of your story,” said Unathi, “I’m crying because you are a great singer.”

Randall thought that Hloni was a diamond in the rough and wanted to see him in Sun City. “Good, that’s yes times three,” said Gareth

Hloni did not audition in Brakpan, at Carnival City, where the first auditions of the competition kicked off and the venue is a few kilometers away from his home town, but he managed to get to Pretoria and he went home with a golden ticket that day.
