Handbag snatcher traumatises women

The man ran off with only her bag

Five women were traumatised when a man broke the window of the SpringsCare transport vehicle to steal one woman’s handbag off her lap.

The incident happened at about 10am on last Wednesday at the end of Plantation Street while Joey Gouws transported four women to the community centre.

The man appeared from somewhere to break the passenger window to grab the handbag of Jackie Harrison.

Harrison had her bag on her lap, as she wanted to take something out of it.

The man ran off with only her bag.

He jumped over the Hellenic Church wall to get away.

Harrison now has to replace her identity document and other documents she had in the bag.

An eyewitness said afterwards the thief used a brick to break the window.

A woman who begs at the same traffic light told the rattled group of women their minivan was the second smash-and-grab at the same traffic light that day.
