The glitziest drag (queen)

Heavy make-up, enough sequins to shock Cher and hair big enough to put Amy Winehouse to shame.

This was the order of the evening on Thursday night at Emperor’s Palace.

The fabulously funny Ceri Dupree presented her one-woman drag show, and it was anything but a drag.

Ceri impersonated well known icons such as Cher, Amy Winehouse and Tina Turner with absolutely fabulous results.

With an amazing singing voice and a quick sense of humour combined with impeccable comedic timing, Ceri entertained her guests until the tears were rolling down their faces with laughter.

My favourite act of the evening was definitely her Cher impersonation, the outfit left people wondering exactly how the female impersonator had pulled it off.

In between singing, Ceri would come out and poke fun at the audience and leave them all in stitches of laughter.

There were times when I felt that the glitzy queen had gone too far, but the jokes were well received by the rest of the audience.

A white screen was erected toward the back of the stage, behind which Ceri changed outfits with the help of a trusty sidekick backstage.

This, I felt, gave the audience an inside look into how much effort goes into changing outfits and wigs.

I was personally impressed by the fact that it is a one wo(man) show and that Ceri had managed to pull it off with such style and flair.

For the final act of the evening, Ceri came out on stage sans make-up, glitzy outfit and outrageous wig and performed I Did It My Way, originally sung by Frank Sinatra.

Any fan of female impersonators would thoroughly enjoy the fabulously glitzy Ceri Dupree.

Ceri Dupree will be performing at Emperor’s Palace on until March 29 from Wednesdays to Saturdays in the Odeon Show Bar.
