A new year brings with it the promise of a fresh list of blockbuster movies.

Here are the most anticipated flicks of the coming year:

Dorothy Of Oz

Based on a novel from the grandson of L. Frank Baum, author of the original Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the movie sees Dorothy making a return trip to the land of Oz to wrest control from a new villain.

Transformers 4: Age Of Extinction

Mark Wahlberg is lead actor in this latest addition to the Transformers saga. An ancient being sets his sights on Earth, while a group of powerful people attempt to create a new age of technology in the absence of the Autobots and Decepticons.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

This latest Marvel film brings Captain America (Chris Evans) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) back together in the face of an unknown enemy and an intricate, deadly plot. A new hero is also revealed.

300: Rise Of An Empire

In this movie, set a decade before the events of 300, one general attempts to reunite the land of Greece against the invading Persian forces, led by the god-king Xerxes. This movie is neither a prequel nor a sequel, director Noam Murro has said.

The Hobbit: There and Back Again

The second stanza in the movie based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, this movie covers the middle section of the book, and is set in Middle-Earth, 60 years before The Lord of the Rings series.

Fast and Furious 7

Set in Los Angeles once again, the latest film in the franchise continues from the events of the previous movie, with a new baddie keen on exacting revenge for Dominic Toretto’s crew taking down his brother.

How To Train Your Dragon 2

Boy-hero, Hiccup and his dragon friend, Toothless, return in a follow up to the 2010 original. The unlikely pair must protect the world from an enemy with an unquenchable thirst for power.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1

With the Capitol furious at Katniss surviving two Hunger Games, it becomes evident no one is safe from its anger and revenge, including the residents of District 12.

The Maze Runner

Trapped in a labyrinth with no memory of the outside world, Thomas must piece together clues within the maze to uncover meaning and find a way out.

A Birder’s Guide To Everything

The legendary Ben Kingsley is billed to star in this movie, centering on a group of friends who venture into the woods in search of a rare species of bird.

Odd Thomas

Based on the classic Dean Koontz novel of the same name, the movie is about a short-order cook with clairvoyant abilities, who encounters a man with a link to sinister forces.

Sin City: A Dame To Kill For

Josh Brolin, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Michael Madsen and more stars feature in this film based on Frank Miller’s book of the same name. This story takes place before The Big Fat Kill from the first movie, Sin City, and ties up some of the plot elements.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past

In an alternate future, mutants are interred in concentration camps while Sentinels patrol the USA. The present-day X-Men must now fight to prevent this apocalyptic future from coming true.

The Amazing Spiderman 2

In his graduation year, Peter Parker does his best to keep a balance between crime fighting, school and his girlfriend, Gwen Stacy. A new villain has plans, however, to destroy his world completely.
