Courage faces off against evil in Slaughter’s latest novel featuring detective Will Trent.

Will is in Macon, Georgia, posing as a scary ex-con. The cover has worked and he has caught the attention of a drug dealer who figures he will be a useful ally. Will’s demons catch up to him as he is cut-off from the support of the woman he loves, Sara Linton.

Sara, who has no idea where Will has gone, or why, has come to Macon as her stepson Jared has been gunned down in his own home. Sara hold Jared’s wife Lena, a detective, responsible.

She becomes involved in the same case as Will without even knowing it. Soon they are both surrounded by danger.

In her usual style, Slaughter has created a tale full of shocks and twists that will keep the reader eagerly turning the pages. I haven’t read all her books, but I’ve come to enjoy her work.

Unlike other authors who keep using the same characters, her stories haven’t become repetitive (as far as I’ve experienced in the books I’ve read) and her characters aren’t stale. This book shows that her main characters can still grow and develop, and that they still have something to offer.

This is a must-read for all of Slaughter’s fans. And for those who haven’t read any of her books, now might be a good time to start.
