Shotokane Dojo offers women self-defence lessons

In an attempt to curb the widespread epidemic of gender-based violence in South Africa, Michael Cindi of the Pan African Shotokan Karate Federation’s head quarters in Selcourt is offering self-defence classes to women.
In the classes, women learn a variety of moves to protect them from a potential attack.

Cindi takes them through some of the essential kata moves, while keeping a close eye to ensure they all have the perfect form.

Sensei Michael Cindi took his students through a variety of kata moves.

“There is a problem with violence against women in this country and we need to do all we can to put a stop to it.
“We offer classes here every day of the week except for Tuesdays, and I encourage women of all ages to join.”
