Boxers take some time out to have fun

“The idea was to get as many clubs as possible involved in this so we could have fun and get together."

The Bert Collins Boxing Club hosted a fun day for Ekurhuleni affiliated boxing clubs last Saturday.
“The idea was to get as many clubs as possible involved in this so we could have fun and get together.
“We cannot have any tournaments yet and we wanted to do something for our boxers,” said Jeanette Dyzel, owner and coach at the club.
Banele Tilo joined the Bigger Walker Boxing Club in Tsakani in 2014.

“I was excited to spend this time with boxers from other teams because we can’t just sit around and do nothing.
“This interaction gives us the opportunity to get to know each other outside of the ring,” said the youngster.
Motlatsi Mosielleng shared the same sentiments.
“We are all just looking forward to competing as soon as we can and we are training hard in preparation for that.
“But for now we play!” said Mosielleng.
Franco de Villiers, a boxer and games facilitator for the day, said that making new friends was top of the list.

“We chose games that promote communication and trust.
“We thought about how to accommodate the younger athletes as well.
“Everything has gone so well and everyone is having a great time.
“Coach Jeanette helped us realise that this is actually the best time to focus on our physical fitness.
“We will certainly be ready to get back into the ring next year,” he said.
Games on the day included a three-legged racing and tug-of-war.
