Country club offers something special

Junior development programme offered at Springs Country Club

Young golfers are being taught the essentials of golf at the junior golf development programme at Springs Country Club.

The programme is aimed at players aged 18 and younger, and all golfing handicaps are welcome.

Juniors will play unusual formats of the game, such as foursomes and betterball match play.

During these games, they can approach their coach and PGA apprentice, Dewald Stander, with questions regarding scoring, the rules of the tournaments in which they wish to compete and other general questions about the game.

“The idea is to get the juniors as ready for tournament play as soon as possible.

“We want to get them into the feel of tournament play at a young age.

“We have always wanted to get the juniors involved in tournament play and we think this is the best way to do that.

“They can come to us with any questions they have and we will answer to the best of our abilities,” said Stander.

Classes are offered every Wednesday and Friday at noon and cost R60 per junior.

The classes include one round of golf, a hot dog and a cooldrink.

There will also be awards handed out at the end of every month, giving the juniors further incentive to get involved.
