Spring Parkrun get stronger every Saturday

Three years ago the Springs Parkrun had its first event at the grounds of Horse and Hound on Paul Kruger Highway.

The event is now a household name in the community, and they keep going stronger.

The top athlete this weekend was Rinus Roothman, from Pretoria.

He came in at a little over 20 minutes.

“I would have finished quicker if I knew the course well.

“I ran extra k’s get getting lost,” he jokes.

Top three athletes from Springs Parkrun: Scott Stephenson, with his dog Molly, Simon Makhooe and Rinus Roothman.

Rinus’ personal best time in parkrun events is 19 minutes and 22 seconds.

In second place was Simon Makhooe, who is preparing for Fittest Soldier, which will be held later in the year.

Scott Stephenson, and his dog Molly, came in third.

Scott says they usually run at Ebotse Parkrun, but decided to do the course in Springs this time.

“The club will not be closing for the holidays.

“We will run through to next year,” explains Pierre Nye from the club.

The club is always open to volunteers, who make a very important contribution to the running of the weekly events.
