Youth Day golf at Pollak Park

A funeral parlour sponsored a Youth Day golf competition which took place at Pollak Park Golf Club on Saturday.

Andrew Mothibe from KwaThema and event coordinator says they invited golfers and captains from industry to participate in the day.

“Golfers from all over came to support the event,” he says, “we had golfers from Johannesburg, Welkom, Bloemfontein and the Vaal Triangle.”

He says the event was held to create opportunities for those who are less privileged.

“There are so many challenges when it comes to the so-called elite sport and we’re not giving back to the community.”

Matthews Mogafe, chairman of the funeral parlour says they were proud to celebrate June 16 by creating awareness of this sport for the youth.

“We wanted to put meaning into playing the game and in doing this, we celebrate this day by doing something we love while creating opportunities for the youth,” he says.

He says four teams participated in the day, each team with 20 players.

“The goal is to teach our youth to start thinking outside the box, how to be on their own, facing challenges of life and being entrepreneurial.”

After the golf day, all the teams and relevant parties had a braai to end off Youth Day.

Joe Mnyandu was the winner of the day with 40 points.

In second place was Phineas Desand with 38 points.

George Brown came in third place with 37 points.

And in fourth place was Teboho Mofokeng with 37 points.

Andrew says the day was a very big success.
