Bert Collins Boxing Club do well at the Arnold Classic Tournament

The club will host the Ekurhuleni Junior and Youth Championship on Saturday.

The Bert Collins Boxing Club performed well at the Arnold Classic Tournament on Saturday.

The tournament was hosted by the Newville Boxing Club at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Three boxers from the club took part and each fought valiantly.

Six-year-old Kyle Burger went up against Nomsa Magidi from Thunder Boxing Club.

This was Burger’s first time in the ring for an official tournament against Magidi who already had two fights.

Burger defended himself very well but Magidi’s experience gave him the win in the third round.

Freddie Dicks (10) got in the ring to face Ryno Botha (11) from Krugersdorp West but lost in the first round on an ABD (abandon) as his coach Freddie Dicks threw in the towel to stop the fight.

Troy Burger (10) won his fight against Aiden Grobler (10) from South Hills with a 3/0 points decision.

Burger boxed very well and showed the older boxers what real boxing is.

“The three boxers who lost their bouts got silver medals and Troy got a gold medal.

“As coaches, we are very proud about the performance of the boxers,” says coach Jeanette Dyzel.

The club will host the Ekurhuleni Junior and Youth Championship on Saturday and boxing will start at 1pm.

Minnet Dicks 54kg (Junior), Geanne Dicks 60kg (Junior) and Chantel Erasmus 54kg (Youth) from Bert Collins will be participating in this tournament and they are confident they will win three Ekurhuleni titles.
