Springs Old Boys Cricket Club host fund-raiser for animal shelters

The club also donated 100 doggy beds.

The Springs Old Boys’ u-10 soccer team were just too good for Edenvale.

The home team trashed the visitors 5-2 with Teboho Khanye scoring a hat-trick and Cesario Lopes and Landré Potgetier contributing a goal each.

In a high tempo match which both teams initially looked well matched, the Springs Old Boys applied pressure on Edenvale when it mattered and it paid off.

Unable to cope with the relentless energy of Springs Old Boys, Edenvale made mistakes that cost them dearly, including an own goal.

The visitors were unnecessarily aggressive against the Old Boys and were at times heavily censured by the referee.

Coach Nino Lopes was pleased with his team’s performance.

“They were excellent even though it was a hard game.

“This was their win in a row and they haven’t lost all season,” says Lopes.

The team, who are the defending champions in the Eastern Gauteng Football League, will look to continue their excellent form when they take on Pro Athletico away from home on the weekend.

Although they are the defending champions, Lopes feels his team can improve as they have a couple of new players who still need to settle into the team.

“We don’t fear anybody.

“I feel we are a determined, well-equipped and skillful side that can take on any team to defend the league title and cup,” says Lopes.

Springs Old Boys will face off against Highlands Park at home next weekend.

The game on Saturday took place as part of the Springs Old Boys fund-raiser for various animal shelters.

The club donated 100 doggy beds and proceeds from the day went towards food and vet bills of various animal shelters.
